Kia ora whanau,
Hope you all had a wonderful long weekend with your whanau. It is hard to believe it is already week 3 of our final term for 2016. All of the Turanganui teachers have been so impressed with our gorgeous tamariki and the way they have settled back into their routines. Last week a number of our students were ambassadors and assisted at the open night or performed in one of groups. We are always proud of the way they interact with and take care of each other - our Turanganui whanau is awesome.
This week we continue to revise over our reading strategies, persuasive essay writing, maths and inquiry work in preparation for our end of year assessments. We still have a full seven weeks of quality learning time before our end of year activities begin so we aim to cram as much in before our summer break. Pictured below are some of our lucky year 7 crew who are doing extra maths with the lovely Mrs Barclay. These guys come back to class buzzing about their new learning. We also have a number of outstanding Mathletes who are working incredibly hard to complete their entire Mathletics level by the end of the year. Our latest results are currently being collated and our syndicate leader results will be shared on here tomorrow.
Next Friday we have our school athletic sprints at school and every student will compete in the 100m and 200m events. Our children are able to dress in our Turanganui blue or wear their pe gear if they prefer and we would love to see lots of whanau spectating as well. Keep an eye on the school panui for start times for these events. This week the field events begin during the lunch hour and all Turanganui teachers have been encouraging our children to enter everything. We have been practising our technique during syndicate PE rotations for discus, shot put, high jump, long jump, cricket ball throws and sprints. Here is the timetable for the lunchtime or interval field events.
We have a number of students who have made the school softball team to travel to Whakatane at the end of the year. Keep an eye out on the school notices for a list of these awesome Turanganuians.
Last week the Ki o Rahi Primary and Intermediate comps were held at our school. Congratulations to all of our students who were involved in these teams and to Gisint 2 who won the overall competition. The games were very exciting to watch. Our winning team is pictured below with their coach Matua Rapiata Ria.
