Kia ora koutou and welcome to week 6!
Congratulations to Peyton and Daley Riri, Paddy Blackman and Matariki Kaa who represented Tairawhiti at the Basketball nationals over the weekend. We are always proud of our Turanganui students at school and out of school too. This week we have a T's vs W's basketball tournament at school so hopefully we can work hard with Taruheru to take on Waipaoa and Waimata. Thanks heaps to the Turanganui students who are reffing these games.
Last week all of our students who had remained in green zone were able to attend our first syndicate green card event for the term which was Ultimate Game at the YMCA. The Ultimate game is an extremely fun invasion game that involves lots of strategy and teamwork. Congratulations to all Turanganui Taonga who enjoyed this reward PE session. Our next green card event will be an amazing race and picnic at the end of week 8. The emphasis for our next green card will be on those students who are completing high quality work in and out of class.
Maths, Maths, Marvellous Maths
Wow!! Turanganui students are pumping in Maths and we now have 34 students who have earned 1 or 2 Silver Certificates. Here are some amazing fun facts about our awesome Mathletes in Turanganui.
- 20% of Mathletics Tasks completed are assigned by the teacher and an outstanding 80% are self selected by our students!
- In three weeks we have gone from 5 silver Certificate Recipients to 34 (36 certificates as two students have earned 2).
- All teachers are noticing a huge improvement in basic facts knowledge because the majority of our kids are practising their times tables at home. Our children must have a solid foundation in times tables or they will find every aspect of maths a challenge. Please continue to encourage basic facts practise at home or allow your child to go on Mathletics as much as possible - it is a brilliant resource and the results are fantastic and getting better every week.
- Please see our top students and class results for week 5.
- The students highlighted blue are new Silver Certificate Recipients for week 5.
