Our Turanganui Mathletics Leaders up to Week 9
Congratulations to McKenzie Pepere, Treyson Hikitapua-Wilson and Ani Whaanga-Smith for making the PB Under 13 hockey rep team.
We have a large number of students from our team who will be travelling to Whakatane tomorrow and we wish them all the very best. The Whakatane Exchange is one of the highlights of our school year and many friendships will be made over the coming days. Congratulations to these awesome Turanganuians who will be competing in their chosen code. Ka mau te wehi koutou!

Alishia Williams and Sophie Hemi Holloway hard at work during their maths lesson last week. It is always a pleasure popping into our syndicate classes and seeing all of the neat things going on.
Maths is pumping in Turanganui. Some of our year 8's have just finished a very successful series of Mako Maths lessons with the lovely Mrs Barclay. Mrs Barclay said these students were outstanding ambassadors and worked extremely hard during every session. We can't wait to do our end of term testing to see how much we have all improved.
Tuakana - Teina Buddy Reading
Last week Koka Sam trained up the room 22 Tekau ma Rua leaders to help run our Buddy Reading programme in room 23. Each morning our leaders will spend 15 minutes assisting Koka Sam by listening and reading to to her awesome students Mason, Rosie, Leah, and Sonny.
Tekau Ma Rua Trip to Wellington
Thank you to all of our whanau and friends, Turanga Health, Turanga Ararau and The Sugar Kitchen who helped our syndicate leaders get to Wellington to watch the All Blacks vs Wales game last weekend. We had a fantastic time away and look forward to more awesome leadership opportunities throughout the remainder of the year. Next term we are going to have a big focus on giving back to the community and will be expanding our group. The highlight of the trip was definitely meeting the All Blacks at the end of the game.
March for Moko
Tomorrow some of our students will be representing Gisint at the March for Moko hikoi from Marina Park to the Gisborne Courthouse. Your child would've brought a permission form home on Friday if they are attending. Unfortunately Whakatane Exchange students are not able to come as they have a final powhiri practise at 9am with Papa Pura. We are proud to be able to support this important kaupapa.
Thank you
Nga mihi nui ki a Matua Josh Wharehinga for coming in to speak to our year 8's last week regarding the great migration. Our staff and students were very privileged to hear this korero and learnt a lot during the hour long session. The year 7's look forward to listening to Matua Josh in the near future and congratulate him on his appointment to our Board of Trustees. Please let us know if you have skills that you would love to share with our tamariki. Our focus for next term is on Kaitiakitanga - Guardianship and we are very keen to head out into the community. If you would like to contribute to this kaupapa please make contact with one of us. This unit will tie in beautifully with the science fair and our syndicate will be doing some very cool science rotations from the beginning of term 3.
MiE Tairawhiti vs MiE Hawkes Bay
Please come along to Rugby Park this Friday night at 6pm to support our Tairawhiti teachers who are taking on the Hawkes Bay MiE (Men in Education) teachers. Our very own Matua Walter, Matua Puri and Matua Bruce will be joining forces with Mr Udall, Mr Hart, Mr Barclay and a number of other teachers from our district. It is bound to be an entertaining evening...possibly even more entertaining than the All Black grand final! Come and cheer along our Gizzy Int teachers and Mr Hart and Mr Udall!
Please check back throughout the week as we will be having more information come out regarding next week's cross country, our final green card event for the term and other panui and updates. There will also be a whanau consultation survey coming home in the near future. We would love to hear your suggestions on how we can make Gisint even better for your child.
Last Wednesday we farewelled our beautiful Koka Kat who is only a couple of weeks away from welcoming her third child. We all love Koka Kat and will miss her immensely but we are sure she will come and visit us lots. We had a delicious shared lunch on Friday for Koka Kat's last day - Thank you to everyone for the delicious kai.
Thanks Koka Kat for everything xx
Finally, all of our Turanganui whanau wish Oliver Lodewyk and his Mum Rachel a safe journey to Boston and back so Oliver can meet with specialists. Our thoughts will be with both of you and of course James, Hugo and Adam back here at home. Thank you very much to our school community who raised over $1200 for Oliver's trip through our recent mufti day and donut sales. Oli and his whanau appreciate everyone's generous support.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
