Kia ora koutou and welcome to term 2!
We hope you all enjoyed a fabulous two week break with your whanau and are as excited as we are about what lies ahead. Thanks so much to all of our whanau who came in at the end of last term to celebrate your child. If you did not manage to get in due to other commitments please make contact with your childs teacher to arrange another time or phone call if preferred. Thanks also to everyone who came to our end of term celebration shared lunch and kapa haka extension session. It is always neat to see you all.
This term we have a major focus on 'Hauora' and as discussed at the learning conferences we are very keen to have whanau input. There will be some whanau fitness challenges throughout the term, whanau evenings and we would love to share your expertise in terms of careers with our children later in the term. Keep an eye on the blog for more information in the near future. We also have our learning groups all set to go and will really be focusing on Maths, Reading and Writing. Please encourage your child to practise and share what they are working on in class at home - you can check each classes blog and your childs individual blog to see what they are learning about in class, our team and the wider school. If your child is able to bring a device in to school each day we strongly encourage them to as we use them a lot in every class.
Our children will be presented with their own Turanganui taonga tomorrow and we would like to thank the following people for making this a possibility. Thank you to Matua Walter who designed this taonga to symbolise our team and school values. Matua Walter will go over the meaning behind our design again tomorrow. Thank you to Aunty V our school SWIS worker who obtained all of the funding from STAND to purchase the perspex glass used to cut all 160 pieces as well as an individual trophy. Thank you to the Parker whanau at the Stone Studio who donated all 160 wax coils for our taonga and to Lytton High School and Mr Devery for cutting these for us using Lytton High School's awesome Makerspace unit. This took approximately ten hours to complete in the holidays. We are all so appreciative of the continued support that we receive from our whanau and friends. Thank you all.
At our team hui at the end of last term these awesome students were acknowledged by their class Tekau Ma Rua for being outstanding role models and hard workers. Each Monday (starting next week) the Tekau ma Rua are required to identify two students from their own room who have been working hard and consistently displaying our Gisint RISE values and our Turanganui Values - Manaakitanga, Whakawhanaungatanga and Kotahitanga. We will celebrate these students each week on our blog and in our classrooms.
